It is with great sadness that the Heidelberg United ‘Alexander’ family has learnt of the passing of a former great George Dines.
George began his playing career at the Club in 1958 and finished in 1964 for a total of 86 games. He played during a time when 'Alexander', then was establishing itself as a genuine force in Victorian football. He will always be remembered as a member of the great INVINCIBLES! An era that culminated in three championships and record breaking scores from 1960 - 1964
It’s was an exciting time. Although George migrated back to his homeland Greece, Florina, from his village Skopia he kept tabs of his beloved club & teammates. He was buried with his beloveded Alexander colours & cap! His family would recall he would often sit under his favourite fig tree watching ‘Alexander’ play online. Fittingly and peacefully he passed away under the tree at the age of 89.
The Heidelberg United ‘Alexander’ Football Club would like to extend its sincere condolences to George’s family. He will genuinely be missed by everyone at the Club and even more so by those that were fortunate enough to call him a friend. Sadly missed, always remembered but never forgotten. May he Rest-In-Peace
